Jan. 12th, 2014 12:16 am OK, I had better apologize in advance for this post, because I have been drinking wine out of my Autobot Pimp Cup for the past few hours, and this post may not make complete sense. But it's Saturday night and I'm bored on the internet, and I realized there were things that needed posting about that were not meme related, so. Yeah.
Point the First - Alpha fics, yatta! Oh my god, you guys, there was SO MUCH good stuff written for this fest this year, I can't even. I still need to go back through and kudos-review all the things.
I wrote One of Their Own forthesecondbatgirl because we're ridiculous people. It's rare that I say this, given that my self-esteem is generally less than stellar, but I am actually proud of this fic. And hey, if I had to watch the same three episodes of Goseiger on repeat for the sake of writing it, it was still a worthwhile venture.
I received TWO fics, woohoo!
First, Mistel Me What You're Thinking by Revieloutionne who...I don't THINK has a DW otherwise I'd be linking him right now? IDK. This is one of those wonderful situations in which I prompt the thing, I don't expect anyone will actually write the thing, someone DOES write the thing, and it's WAY BETTER THAN I EXPECTED IT TO BE. Seriously, I can't say enough good things about this fic. It has it all. Gia and Jake having an awesome bromance! Prank wars! Troy backstory! Troy having an angst! How often does a fic inspire both laughter and wibbling? I rec the FUCK out of this fic, it is AWESOME.
And second, Something Fishy This Way Comes byqueenriley , in which so many of my favorite things happen, let me count the ways. 1, Billy showing up in seasons where he ought not be. 2, there is FINALLY FIC ABOUT BOTH BILLY AND ANTONIO BEING AFRAID OF FISH, 3, he still makes Antonio eat sushi but he is SO MUCH NICER about it than Ji was in canon, 4, Billy totally knows what motivates Antonio and tells him to DO IT FOR JAYDEN. I am so happy this fic is a thing.
And even though these were not fics for me, I'd be remiss if I didn't give a bonus rec to Private Lessons bytptigger , which is the Rocky and Justin friendship backstory I've always wanted but was too lazy to write myself, and The Beginning of a Beautiful Friendship by queenriley , which is far and away THE BEST social worker!Rocky fic I have ever read.
I swear, this fest gets better every year. <3
Point the second, I have plane tickets now, so I am officially going to visitthesecondbatgirl for couchcon again! Huzzah! I can't wait for another extended weekend of hanging out with awesome fandom people, watching ridiculous amounts of toku, writing fic and making my liver hate me. <3 <3 <3

Me: Riker no, don’t fuck the natives.
Husband: YEAH RIKER, GET SOME!
11001001 - Riker is flirting with a red herring in a red dress on the holodeck.
Me: Riker no, don’t fuck the holograms.
Husband: YEAH RIKER, GET SOME!
This was followed in short order by a lamentation about how Riker got cockblocked by having to save the ship.

Second, I am onthesecondbatgirl 's couch right now, and it is WONDEROUS. Well worth the effort that it took to get here, which involved delays on the ground, delays in the air, almost having to land elsewhere because the plane was being asked to hold outside Atlanta and we were running out of fuel, ultimately landing 90 minutes late, and let us not forget the underlying reason for all this, FLYING THROUGH A HUGENORMOUS THUNDERSTORM. If you have flown in inclement weather before, you know what I mean. If you haven't, I do not recommend it. You never want to look out the window of your plane and see what looks like a scene out of The Matrix. Seriously, pure black clouds with lightning arcing between them, and occasionally the lights of the city underneath. I was kind of worried I was going to die, but it was also really, really cool.
But now I'm here with some of my favorite people and we're having an all-day Gokaiger marathon with wine, and coming up with all the absurd porny plot bunnies we want to see but will likely never write ourselves. All is right with the world.

Mar. 3rd, 2013 07:23 pmPoint the first: I'm now more than a week post-op and have been feeling a lot more normal for the past few days. I've been back working since Wednesday, graduated from the hydrocodone to regular ibuprofen and haven't needed any pain medication whatsoever since Thursday night. The incisions are still a pain in the ass. They don't hurt at all until I do something to remind myself that they're there. And it's stupid stuff that sets them off, like...wearing most of my pants. Or trying to sleep on my side. It's super annoying, so I am not-so-patiently waiting for the damn things to heal up. On the flip side, I ate a bunch of junk food this weekend and had NO pain whatsoever, so I guess the surgery was a success!
Point the second: This weekend was Genericon weekend, ever and always the official kickoff to con season! And 2013 has got a BIG con season. PWTOP Part 2 - Supernatural
Feb. 24th, 2013 07:51 pmThis didn't end up being quite the marathon I had hoped it would be, as today was for some reason a lot less pain and a lot more sleeping. So after nodding off a few times, I gave up on watching anything that needed my actual attention and put the Food Network on instead. Oh well. It's still much more of this series than I've ever seen before.
Pain Level: 2.5
Number of Hydrocodones Consumed: Only 1!
Overall Entertainment Level: 5.5
Comments: This is one of those shows in which I care a lot more about the characters than I do about the premise of the show itself. Chasing demons? Don't care. Wiseass banter? Yes please. I didn't get nearly far enough to see Castiel either, and I'd like to give that a shot just to see what all the fuss is about. So how about it, flist? What are some episodes with him in them that I can watch without being too hideously confused about what's going on?
Overall, still fairly baffled by the amount of enthusiasm people have for this show, but I can see the appeal of writing All The Fic about these characters.

First day of post-op recovery consisted of napping, watching the latest episode of Megaforce, of course, and then a Doctor Who marathon. I was told to start with the Ninth Doctor, so that is where I started, and burned through all thirteen episodes today.
Pain Level: 3.5 - 4

Overall entertainment Level: 7
Comments: Nobody does it quite like the Brits, do they? This show is definitely smoking a great deal of RJ's weed, what with the farting aliens and gas mask zombies and homicidal reality show robots and living spaceships and all, but that certainly isn't a bad thing. I can see why so many people in my life enjoy the series as much as they do. The dialogue is flawless, the soundtrack is stellar, and there seems to be a well-balanced mix of angst and WTF-British-comedy going on at all times. And I am utterly convinced that the Doctor, Jack, and Rose had a three-way between episodes 10 and 11. I could have done without Rose's whiny dippy boyfriend, though. He strikes me as a fairly pointless character. But Jack getting repeatedly stripped naked was a nice touch.
All in all, I don't imagine I'll be joining the fandom anytime soon, but it's definitely a good watch.

What is this I don't even
Feb. 10th, 2013 10:45 pmI'm not even going to get into my thoughts on Megaforce because it would take me hours and all of my opinions are unpopular anyway. So fuck that, I have fandomsmash to report.
My husband, who is ridiculous and harbors an irrational enjoyment of terrible movies, decided that we were going to watch Battleship this evening. Initially I complained about this, as you do, until it was brought to my attention that John Tui is not only in the film, he actually has a decently big part. Wrap your heads around this fact, friendslist. JOHN TUI IS IN FUCKING BATTLESHIP. He of course plays a spectacular badass who is also quite useful because he seems to be the only one around capable of getting the protagonist to curb his "angsty Red Ranger"-ish qualities. And of course, his guns are ridonkulous and he looks stupid hot in a military uniform.
It is both surreal and hilarious to see Daggeron in a boat with Rihanna.
One of the other major characters in this film is played by Hamish Linklater, who no one cares about but me because I happened to see him in a Broadway play with Alan Rickman last year. I am kind of proud of both of these guys for getting into a major movie. It is a superbly crappy major movie, but it is a major movie nonetheless. So yeah. Thumbs up, guys.
(Footnote: For the purpose of keeping myself entertained and distracted from how silly the plot is, I'm keeping score on who is having a more difficult time controlling his accent, John Tui or Liam Neeson. So far, Liam Neeson is losing.)

Jan. 29th, 2013 10:41 pmLately I've been feeling fairly blah and unmotivated for some reason, or possibly a combination of several probable reasons, whatever, I don't particularly care and the only reason I bring it up now is because today was a beautiful day in the fandom neighborhood and I feel SO MUCH BETTER NOW.
Point the first: fly_buggy_fly found a bunch of super old RP logs from 2006(!!!!) and nostalgia like WHOA.
Point the second: I spent all day emailing with thesecondbatgirl about dark AUs and porn and dark AUs WITH porn in a (successful) effort to distract one another from work suck.
Point the third: Speaking of porn,HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS EXISTED UNTIL TODAY? So what if I'm 5 years late to the party, I do not care. It is GLORIOUS.
Point the fourth: And it has also been brought to my attention that JDF broke a bunch of boards after jumping out of a plane, thereby breaking the world record for breaking the most boards after jumping out of a plane. I am more surprised that someone else set a record for this in the first place than I am that JDF did it.

Right now the deal is, for every episode of MLP:FiM I agree to watch (Say nothing, just because I'm watching doesn't mean I will ever be sucked into the fandom.), she agrees to watch an episode of Power Rangers. I feel vaguely victorious because of this. But really, the important part is that it resulted in this being said:
"That's about the extent of my knowledge [of PR], you make them gay and you like the yellow one."
That is...probably the single most apt description of my fandom I have ever seen.
