It doesn't take away from what has been. And I deliberately refrained from going the 'ruined forever' route for a reason. I liked the 2009 remake a whole hell of a lot. There are lots of things to like about STID also. Independently, they are good (if sometimes problematic) films.
If they are indicative of what the future of Star Trek as a franchise is going to look like, I can easily predict myself losing interest.
