BEHOLD, LIKE A COSPLAYING PHOENIX I ARISE FROM THE ASHES OF FAILURE AND ACHIEVE...VICTORY!

Congratulations, Pocky! It's a head!

This morning, in a last-minute surge of motivation, I went to Michael's, bought a whole bunch of new crap, and then spent all afternoon assembling it into this. No more molding. Fuck molding. This was BUILT, out of craft foam, Model Magic, and a mutilated baseball cap.  I've accomplished more on this costume today than I have in the past three months. I'm not going to say it's perfect, because it's not. The proportions are off and it's rougher than I'd like. But it's SOMETHING. And right now that something is drying in preparation for paint and detailing.

Meanwhile, for the first time since I started work on this godforsaken thing, I got to work on something OTHER than the stupid head:

Here is a brooch-thing. It wasn't a seashell after all. I might never have known WHAT it was, were it not for [personal profile] tptigger and her shiny screencaps. Right now it needs baking, painting, and a pin back.

Seashell belt. I could weep for joy.

I'm not out of the woods yet. The head still needs a lot of work, and I've not even started the tunic yet. But there's hope, dammit, and there wasn't much of that before.

So first of all, this is a thing. ) We'll see how much of this actually gets written and when, though.

Second, I am on [personal profile] thesecondbatgirl 's couch right now, and it is WONDEROUS. Well worth the effort that it took to get here, which involved delays on the ground, delays in the air, almost having to land elsewhere because the plane was being asked to hold outside Atlanta and we were running out of fuel, ultimately landing 90 minutes late, and let us not forget the underlying reason for all this, FLYING THROUGH A HUGENORMOUS THUNDERSTORM. If you have flown in inclement weather before, you know what I mean. If you haven't, I do not recommend it. You never want to look out the window of your plane and see what looks like a scene out of The Matrix. Seriously, pure black clouds with lightning arcing between them, and occasionally the lights of the city underneath. I was kind of worried I was going to die, but it was also really, really cool.

But now I'm here with some of my favorite people and we're having an all-day Gokaiger marathon with wine, and coming up with all the absurd porny plot bunnies we want to see but will likely never write ourselves. All is right with the world.

Two things learned from the weekend:

1) Don't go to gaming cons when you're not a gamer.
2) Nerds throw the best parties.

Basically, the entire reason this happened was because a very old and presently Boston-dwelling friend of mine decided to gift the Yeti and I PAX passes for Christmas and offered up her house for us to crash at. To make a long story short: Biggest fucking con ever. HORDES of nerds the likes of which I've never seen before. Custom-painting D&D minis and playing vintage arcade games = fun. Burning all my spoons by hustling through crowds and hanging around with a bunch of people I don't know = tiring. And as I said, I'm not a gamer, so a lot of what was going on didn't hold my interest. Xyc entered a Magic: The Gathering tournament and had a blast, though, so I suppose overall it was a worthwhile endeavor. And then there was a spectacularly bitchin' afterparty that involved a disco basement, the worst video games I've ever seen, horse masks, giant foam hands, cornhole, guys rubbing butts, obscure British drinking games, a booty-drop competition, and me being a classy mofo by not only killing an entire bottle of cheap terrible wine by myself, but also drinking said wine out of a red Solo cup.

Nerds definitely throw the best parties. And speaking of...next stop, COUCHCON!!!! Cannot freaking wait!

I has plane tickets with which to visit [personal profile] thesecondbatgirl for couch con and birthday shenanigans next month.

That is all.

It's been over 24 hours and two viewings, and I think I'm going to have to resign myself to the fact that a cogent reaction post to yesterday's Megaforce premiere is just not going to happen. I can't. There are way too many thoughts and all of them are interrupted by flail and squee to the point of no longer making sense. The headcanon machine has gone wild over Troy (Why is he dreaming of Rangers and just what is this adversity in his past that we keep getting allusions to?) and Gosei. (But at least I got the canon link with Zordon that I wanted. LET THERE BE FIC.) And I love the girls and will continue shipping them together with impunity until the show gives me something else to work with.

Everything was nostalgia and nothing hurt. <3

Lately I've been feeling fairly blah and unmotivated for some reason, or possibly a combination of several probable reasons, whatever, I don't particularly care and the only reason I bring it up now is because today was a beautiful day in the fandom neighborhood and I feel SO MUCH BETTER NOW.

Point the first: [livejournal.com profile] fly_buggy_fly found a bunch of super old RP logs from 2006(!!!!) and nostalgia like WHOA.

Point the second: I spent all day emailing with [personal profile] thesecondbatgirl about dark AUs and porn and dark AUs WITH porn in a (successful) effort to distract one another from work suck.

Point the third: Speaking of porn,HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS EXISTED UNTIL TODAY? So what if I'm 5 years late to the party, I do not care. It is GLORIOUS.

Point the fourth: And it has also been brought to my attention that JDF broke a bunch of boards after jumping out of a plane, thereby breaking the world record for breaking the most boards after jumping out of a plane. I am more surprised that someone else set a record for this in the first place than I am that JDF did it.

Point the fifth: MEGAFORCE CLIPS MEGAFORCE CLIPS HOLY CRAP WHY ISN'T IT SATURDAY YET You guys want to hear all my uncensored thoughts about these, don't you? Of course you do.
