It's been brought to my attention that you can use your email to make DW posts. Handy, since the damn site doesn't ever let me post from my phone. Handy if it works, that is. Call this an experiment.

So, [personal profile] tsukino_akume requested a general headcanon ramble post. Which...normally would not be that much of a problem, except for the fact that I've already covered a lot of my major headcanons in other posts this month. Oops? So I'm just going to go ahead and post some random bits and pieces here, and if anyone's curious about my thoughts on anything else, feel free to ask in the comments.

Some of this might also have been posted about in other places before )

Tomorrow's post is on the train wreck pairing that is Ji and Jayden's dad, as requested by [personal profile] punkpinkpower . And Day 14's post will be on Transformers vs. sentient Zords, as requested by [personal profile] angel_negra , whose thought process gets two thumbs up.
pockysquirrel: (flail like a flaily thing)
OK, I had better apologize in advance for this post, because I have been drinking wine out of my Autobot Pimp Cup for the past few hours, and this post may not make complete sense. But it's Saturday night and I'm bored on the internet, and I realized there were things that needed posting about that were not meme related, so. Yeah.

Point the First - Alpha fics, yatta! Oh my god, you guys, there was SO MUCH good stuff written for this fest this year, I can't even. I still need to go back through and kudos-review all the things.

I wrote One of Their Own for [personal profile] thesecondbatgirl because we're ridiculous people. It's rare that I say this, given that my self-esteem is generally less than stellar, but I am actually proud of this fic. And hey, if I had to watch the same three episodes of Goseiger on repeat for the sake of writing it, it was still a worthwhile venture.

I received TWO fics, woohoo!

First, Mistel Me What You're Thinking by Revieloutionne who...I don't THINK has a DW otherwise I'd be linking him right now? IDK. This is one of those wonderful situations in which I prompt the thing, I don't expect anyone will actually write the thing, someone DOES write the thing, and it's WAY BETTER THAN I EXPECTED IT TO BE. Seriously, I can't say enough good things about this fic. It has it all. Gia and Jake having an awesome bromance! Prank wars! Troy backstory! Troy having an angst! How often does a fic inspire both laughter and wibbling? I rec the FUCK out of this fic, it is AWESOME.

And second, Something Fishy This Way Comes by [personal profile] queenriley , in which so many of my favorite things happen, let me count the ways. 1, Billy showing up in seasons where he ought not be. 2, there is FINALLY FIC ABOUT BOTH BILLY AND ANTONIO BEING AFRAID OF FISH, 3, he still makes Antonio eat sushi but he is SO MUCH NICER about it than Ji was in canon, 4, Billy totally knows what motivates Antonio and tells him to DO IT FOR JAYDEN. I am so happy this fic is a thing.

And even though these were not fics for me, I'd be remiss if I didn't give a bonus rec to Private Lessons by [personal profile] tptigger , which is the Rocky and Justin friendship backstory I've always wanted but was too lazy to write myself, and The Beginning of a Beautiful Friendship by [personal profile] queenriley , which is far and away THE BEST social worker!Rocky fic I have ever read.

I swear, this fest gets better every year. <3

Point the second, I have plane tickets now, so I am officially going to visit [personal profile] thesecondbatgirl for couchcon again! Huzzah! I can't wait for another extended weekend of hanging out with awesome fandom people, watching ridiculous amounts of toku, writing fic and making my liver hate me. <3 <3 <3
pockysquirrel: (Default)
[personal profile] punkpinkpower requested that I discuss my favorite animals and link to adorable pictures of them. Can do!

Brace for cuteness! )
Tomorrow's post is diversity in the women of Power Rangers, as requested by [personal profile] angel_negra . And Day 4's post will be the story of how I got into fandom, and specifically PR fandom, as requested by [personal profile] tsukino_akume .
pockysquirrel: (Default)
It's 2014, woot woot! I have resolutions and goals and shit like that, but I'm not going to post about them because every time I do, I end up looking back on that post and feeling inordinately guilty about whatever I didn't succeed at doing. :P

Anyhoot, there was a ridiculous New Year's party at my mom's house last night, complete with ridiculous amounts of alcohol, of which I consumed entirely too much. I suspect I'm getting too old to be partying that hard, but there's something deeply satisfying about getting drunk as hell in the company of nearly all your favorite people.

And now, without further ado, it's time to start the topic meme! For day 1,[personal profile] tsukino_akume asked me to explain the origin of my username, and I am glad to do so because this story never fails to delight me with its derpiness.

Of cons and silliness )

Two different people requested stuff for day 3 and no one for day 2, so I'll just bump one of them up for tomorrow's meme. Day 2's post will be on favorite animals (with bonus cute pictures!) as requested by [personal profile] punkpinkpower , and day 3 will be diversity in the women of Power Rangers as requested by [personal profile] angel_negra . And I'm still actively soliciting for about 15 more topics, so feel free to comment here  if you'd like to suggest one.
pockysquirrel: (Default)
Since all the cool people are doing it, how about that topics meme? Give me a topic - and this can be absolutely anything; fandom/writing/headcanon stuff, kinks/squicks/other horrors of the internet, social work/mental health/psychology stuff, personal/RL life stuff, random shit you're curious about - and a date on which to post about it, and January will be a fiesta of likely disjointed and rambling responses.

Feel free to make more than one request, since I doubt enough people actually follow me to fill up all 31 days.

And then yell at me to stop poking around the internet and write things.
pockysquirrel: (NaNo2013)
On a lark, I went back and re-read all the NaNo related posts I made back when I had my first go-round in 2008. And I discovered two things.

1) This is proving to be MUCH easier than last time.
2) Wow, I was a whiny bitch.

So yeah. As of the end of day 9, my total word count is sitting pretty at 17209. I participated in NaNoThon today with great success, coming in with a daily total of 3665 words. I have also realized that there is no possible way I'm going to get to the end of the plot by the end of this month. Not sure yet if I'm going to continue writing into December, or shelve it for a few months and write the rest come Camp NaNo time in the spring. I figure I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Highlights of the month so far include:
- A one-off line about a character's ratty old sandals which I suspect is going to turn into a running gag.
- My personal favorite character and resident giant woob rushing in to save his future boyfriend from certain death whilst wielding the infamous Traveling Shovel of Death.
- Throwing my protagonist off a building only to find out that, surprise, her super-suit has WINGS.
- Writing a scene and realizing after the fact that I have just unintentionally foreshadowed the end of the novel.

And low points:
- A day during which I wrote next to nothing due to working for over 14 straight hours. I love my second job, and I love the extra money, but I'm going to be ruing Mondays for the rest of the month.
- The constant, nagging feeling that 90 to 95% of everything that I've written thus far is complete and utter shit.
pockysquirrel: (flail like a flaily thing)
 1) Who all just watched Agents of SHIELD?

2) Who all wants to join me in madly flailing about Agents of SHIELD?
pockysquirrel: (facepalm)
My submission for Femslash Ficathon is like. Almost four times the required word count. Oops.

...At least it's done, though? And not terrible, I think?
pockysquirrel: (facepalm)
I am in a major-league writing slump that I am looking to break out of.

Consequently, people should comment to this post with a pairing, and a number between 1 and 30. And I will write a thing accordingly.

No, I will not tell you what the numbers mean, because I want this to be well and truly randomized. You'll find out later. :3

EDIT: WHYYYYY IS EVERYONE ASKING FOR 13. 13 IS PROBABLY THE WORST THING ON THE LIST.

EDIT THE SECOND: ...I maybe should have mentioned that all of these will be sexual in nature. Assuming my 'the internet is for porn' tag didn't give it away.
pockysquirrel: (facepalm)
Last night I was chatting with people online while drinking beers and watching the Power Rangers movies in celebration of both my birthday and the anniversary of the MMPR:TM release...as you do...when I was reminded of a certain bad and wrong post-T:APRM AU that I think developed in response to a SpringKink prompt some time ago. And flagrantly enabled to write said bad and wrong AU by a certain [personal profile] thesecondbatgirl .

Tomorrow also happens to be the start of July's round of Camp NaNoWriMo.

I'm sure you all can see where this is going.

Seems pretty apt to me. We'll see how this goes.
pockysquirrel: (phaser a bitch)
 A strange thing is happening.

First I started having less feels about Star Trek Into Darkness and more thoughts about it.

Then i came up with a more or less fully-fledged fixit headcanon for Star Trek Into Darkness.

Then I started trawling about the STID Kink Meme. (Which, as an aside, has nearly 700 comments in 4 days. Given that PR and/or Toku fandom can't seem to sustain a kink meme AT ALL, I can't help feeling a little jealous.)

Then I started WRITING for the STID Kink Meme.

I have do idea why I'm doing these things, given that I didn't even particularly like the movie.

...I feel like I'm having hatesex with a fandom. 8|
pockysquirrel: (meme sheep)
As usual, I should be writing or doing something useful. (In my defense, I WAS doing some work from home, but then my remote access crapped out, so...) But [livejournal.com profile] finnickodair posted this genius list of ship meme questions and you know how I feel about memes...

If you can think of a ship, i will answer these questions for them

what do they do when they’re away from each other?:

So I did a marathon of Transformers Prime and watched all the episodes. This marathon officially elevated the show's status in my life from 'thing I watch sometimes' to 'thing I fan the hell out of'.

(While rec is not exactly the point of this post, I will sidebar to say that if you have any interest at all in giant sentient transforming robots, especially giant sentient transforming robots who have a lot of angst, and have not yet seen this show, you should see this show. It is STUPID GOOD. The cast is extraordinary. The animation is gorgeous. This show has won Emmys and totally deserves them. WATCH IT WATCH IT YAY.)

At the end of said marathon, I managed to find the first episode of the third and unfortunately final season, which premiered on Friday and which I missed due to being in the car en route to PAX. (Thank you, Hasbro, for not being a butt about copyright like you usually are and not having it taken down from Youtube yet.) Except now I'm sort of wishing I hadn't watched it, because that episode gave me the HUGEST SAD EVER. Holy shit, show. WHY ARE YOU SO GOOD, AND WHY ARE YOU SO MEAN TO YOUR CHARACTERS? This season is going to kill me with feels. Just thinking about it turns me into a wibbly mess and it's only going to get worse.

What am I going to do about this?
1) Watch the episode again because I am a masochist like that.
2) Find and read as much shippy fic as possible to ease my pain.
3) POSSIBLY WRITE FIC THAT ISN'T ABOUT POWER RANGERS WHUT.
4) Buy toys.

Robot fandom is like a boomerang, man. It may go away for awhile, but it always comes back. And hits you upside the head when it does.
pockysquirrel: (flail like a flaily thing)

Back when I was doing season reviews of all the PR, I made note of the fact that Nathaniel Lees, Jungle Fury's Master Mao, turned up in the latter Matrix movies as Mifune, wherein he proceeded to swear a lot and kick ass with a big robot exo-suit until being tragically killed by mechanical squids. WELL. Upon rewatching The Matrix Revolutions last night, I spotted another familiar face. Apparently Rene Naufahu did a bit part in the same two movies, plus the video game!

Two PR mentors defending Zion together? Screw Neo; this CLEARLY is why they won.

(And while we're on the subject of Matrix movies, Zoe from Firefly also makes an appearance, a fact I totally missed on prior viewings due to having never seen Firefly at the time. And then I found out she's also been voicing a robot on Transformers: Prime, a show whose cast is also a cornucopia of fandomsmash. Seriously, this shit is like candy to me.)

(In which Erin Cahill is apparently dating Seal, and then my brain exploded.)

My response? NO ERIN NO. Seriously, no. Why would you? You can do so much better! Why? Just...why?

Although I am vaguely impressed that Yahoo was actually savvy to the fact that Jen was her team's leader.
pockysquirrel: (hair envy)
I'm not even going to get into my thoughts on Megaforce because it would take me hours and all of my opinions are unpopular anyway. So fuck that, I have fandomsmash to report.

My husband, who is ridiculous and harbors an irrational enjoyment of terrible movies, decided that we were going to watch Battleship this evening. Initially I complained about this, as you do, until it was brought to my attention that John Tui is not only in the film, he actually has a decently big part. Wrap your heads around this fact, friendslist. JOHN TUI IS IN FUCKING BATTLESHIP. He of course plays a spectacular badass who is also quite useful because he seems to be the only one around capable of getting the protagonist to curb his "angsty Red Ranger"-ish qualities. And of course, his guns are ridonkulous and he looks stupid hot in a military uniform.

It is both surreal and hilarious to see Daggeron in a boat with Rihanna.

One of the other major characters in this film is played by Hamish Linklater, who no one cares about but me because I happened to see him in a Broadway play with Alan Rickman last year. I am kind of proud of both of these guys for getting into a major movie. It is a superbly crappy major movie, but it is a major movie nonetheless. So yeah. Thumbs up, guys.

(Footnote: For the purpose of keeping myself entertained and distracted from how silly the plot is, I'm keeping score on who is having a more difficult time controlling his accent, John Tui or Liam Neeson. So far, Liam Neeson is losing.)
pockysquirrel: (flail like a flaily thing)

Lately I've been feeling fairly blah and unmotivated for some reason, or possibly a combination of several probable reasons, whatever, I don't particularly care and the only reason I bring it up now is because today was a beautiful day in the fandom neighborhood and I feel SO MUCH BETTER NOW.

Point the first: [livejournal.com profile] fly_buggy_fly found a bunch of super old RP logs from 2006(!!!!) and nostalgia like WHOA.

Point the second: I spent all day emailing with [personal profile] thesecondbatgirl about dark AUs and porn and dark AUs WITH porn in a (successful) effort to distract one another from work suck.

Point the third: Speaking of porn,HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS EXISTED UNTIL TODAY? So what if I'm 5 years late to the party, I do not care. It is GLORIOUS.

Point the fourth: And it has also been brought to my attention that JDF broke a bunch of boards after jumping out of a plane, thereby breaking the world record for breaking the most boards after jumping out of a plane. I am more surprised that someone else set a record for this in the first place than I am that JDF did it.

Point the fifth: MEGAFORCE CLIPS MEGAFORCE CLIPS HOLY CRAP WHY ISN'T IT SATURDAY YET You guys want to hear all my uncensored thoughts about these, don't you? Of course you do.

Spoiler cut spoiler cut spoiler cut )

Seriously, geeky days are the best days. And now a meme.

Name a character from one of my fandoms and I'll tell you...

1. Why I like them:
2. Why I don’t:
3. Favorite episode (scene if movie, book, manga, etc):
4. Favorite season/movie/book/volume:
5. Favorite line:
6. OTP:
7. Brotp:
8. Head Canon:
9. Unpopular opinion:
10. A wish:
11. An oh-god-please-don't-ever-happen:
12. 5 words to best describe them:
13. My nickname for them:

pockysquirrel: (hair envy)
I'm hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] fly_buggy_fly today; we're chilling on my couch and watching assorted nonsense on Netflix. Right now the deal is, for every episode of MLP:FiM I agree to watch (Say nothing, just because I'm watching doesn't mean I will ever be sucked into the fandom.), she agrees to watch an episode of Power Rangers. I feel vaguely victorious because of this. But really, the important part is that it resulted in this being said:

"That's about the extent of my knowledge [of PR], you make them gay and you like the yellow one."

That is...probably the single most apt description of my fandom I have ever seen.

pockysquirrel: (hair envy)
Somehow, it just became my headcanon that Ji is a semi-closeted fan of these guys:

He's roughly the right age. He's ostensibly from Japan. He likes leather and guitars. IT MAKES SENSE TO ME, OKAY?

...Now there needs to be fic wherein someone (Kevin. Or Mike. Or both. Either would be hilarious.) turns on Ji's stereo and promptly has his mind blown.
