[personal profile] thesecondbatgirl requested a post on the best and worst mentors of PR.

This is going to be a train wreck )

Tomorrow's post will be a general headcanon ramble as requested by [personal profile] tsukino_akume . Which...I have a lot of headcanon. And I have already posted about a lot of my headcanon this month. So if there's any specific fandoms/characters/things you'd like to see me opine about, feel free to let me know. And Day 13's post is on THE PAIRING THAT DARES NOT SPEAK ITS NAME, AKA Ji and Jayden's dad, as requested by [personal profile] punkpinkpower , which is only fitting since that pairing is her fault in the first place.

Also, I am in need of 9 more topics if I'm going to make this a complete month of spamming you all with meme posts. Let's keep the streak alive!

[personal profile] thesecondbatgirl requested a post about color theory.

Ho boy, time to open the can )Tomorrow's post will be on why Rocky is awesome and Rocky-related headcanon as requested by [personal profile] rivulet027 . And for Day 10, [personal profile] punkpinkpower asked that I post about a favorite story or song from childhood and what it means to me now.

I finished my Alpha fic, yay! Only posted it 2 hours late, too! Can't wait till everything's revealed and I can read all the things.

[personal profile] thesecondbatgirl requested that I discuss my favorite fictional therapists. Which, YAY.

YAY. )

Tomorrow's post is on ROBOTS and why I love them, as requested by [livejournal.com profile] fly_buggy_fly . And Day 7's post will be on why Billy is my favorite Ranger, and my headcanon pertaining to him, as requested by [personal profile] rivulet027 .

And can I just say, these topics you guys have been giving me are ACES. All of them. <3

[personal profile] angel_negra requested that I discuss diversity in the women of Power Rangers.

Hoo boy.  )
... I feel like this post sucks and makes no sense, but if there's any other diversity/feminism stuff about PR you think I should touch on, just ask in the comments. Sorry, Angel. ^^a

Tomorrow's post is the story of how I got into fandom, particularly PR fandom, as requested by [personal profile] tsukino_akume . And Day 5's post will be favorite fictional therapists, as requested by [personal profile] thesecondbatgirl .
pockysquirrel: (facepalm)
All right, so, a lot's been going down in PR-land of late, that shouldn't be news to anyone. And I have a lot of feels about it, that also shouldn't be a surprise. My opinions are unpopular. I'm going to talk about them anyway.

Sure, it's mad shitty how Saban is handling this whole situation. I won't dispute that. But it is even shittier how a large chunk of the fandom is handling it. I won't say 'everyone' because I know that's not true. But a large enough chunk to give the fandom as a whole the type of representation that I don't like. Sure, it's okay to be disappointed that this character or that one won't be appearing in Super Megaforce. And it's okay to be upset with some of the decisions Saban is making. It is NOT okay to act like you're entitled to the cameos you want to see and that an actor's decision to not participate is of some kind of personal offense to you. It's like some of these fans are failing to realize that actors are ACTUAL FUCKING PEOPLE, with actual lives and actual legitimate reasons for making the decisions they make. They do NOT exist at the fandom's beck and call. They don't OWE us cameos, they don't OWE us convention appearances, THEY DON'T OWE US A GODDAMN THING and we should be nothing less than GRATEFUL for any time out of their lives that they decide to take to interact with us.

And all entitled douchebaggery aside, I am actually glad to hear that some of these characters - Rocky and Billy in particular - won't be seen in Super Megaforce. Why? Because given what we know about how these characters have been handled in the past, coupled with the general quality of writing and characterization in the series right now, there is absolutely NO WAY that canon would do justice to what I want for these characters and their post-series lives. We have already seen evidence that the series does not know how to treat these characters right, and Steve Cardenas came right out and said he was dissatisfied with the amount of character development he would have been offered in a Super Megaforce appearance. I respect him greatly for taking that into consideration, especially since I'm sure it's come to his attention over the past decade that, had he actually appeared in Forever Red, he would've been relegated to the role of Tommy's butler. We all dodged a bullet when that failed to become canon, and I shudder to think what might have become of Rocky this time around. Billy, meanwhile, was subjected to the biggest shitshow of a send-off there ever was, and while I'll grant that they had to come up with a cover for his sudden departure, they could easily have done better.

But what might or might not have become of Billy in canon is not the most important factor to consider here. David Yost has publically shared what his experience working on PR was like, and having heard his story, not only do I not fault him for deciding not to return, I applaud him for the decision. I don't claim to know the man beyond what he has chosen to share with the world through his general public presence in the fandom, and through having met him at NPS Live, but based on the things he has chosen to share, I would not even be able to enjoy a Billy cameo because I would be too busy worrying about David's emotional state. I can easily ignore most of fandom's cameo-related whining. But I will personally tear anyone I catch complaining about this decision a brand new asshole.

(Once again, that man manages to bring out the absolute worst of my fangirl tendencies.)

(Also, I would like to say that I think the Tweet in which he announced his decision may be the single most masterfully composed Tweet I have ever seen. THE POTSHOT ABOUT THERE BEING POOR GRAMMAR IN THE INVITATION EMAIL. PURE. GOLD.)

So that's my 25 or so cents on the matter. Hopefully this post has worked all the bile out of my system. If there's any left, maybe I'll throw together a rant about how wrong everything about Star Trek Into Darkness has turned out to be. I hope that doesn't become necessary.

...It's a sad day in Pocky-land when I look at my online life and realize that Transformers is the least dysfunctional of my fandoms right now. How does that even happen?

On a lighter but largely related note, I am now in possession of the Holy Grail my very own Legacy Morpher, and it is THE BEST TOY IN THE HISTORY OF TOYS. I can't put it down because holding the damn thing is so immensely satisfying. Quite possibly the best 60 bucks I've ever spent.

This didn't end up being quite the marathon I had hoped it would be, as today was for some reason a lot less pain and a lot more sleeping. So after nodding off a few times, I gave up on watching anything that needed my actual attention and put the Food Network on instead. Oh well. It's still much more of this series than I've ever seen before.

Pain Level: 2.5
Number of Hydrocodones Consumed: Only 1!
Overall Entertainment Level: 5.5

Comments: This is one of those shows in which I care a lot more about the characters than I do about the premise of the show itself. Chasing demons? Don't care. Wiseass banter? Yes please. I didn't get nearly far enough to see Castiel either, and I'd like to give that a shot just to see what all the fuss is about. So how about it, flist? What are some episodes with him in them that I can watch without being too hideously confused about what's going on?

Overall, still fairly baffled by the amount of enthusiasm people have for this show, but I can see the appeal of writing All The Fic about these characters.

First day of post-op recovery consisted of napping, watching the latest episode of Megaforce, of course, and then a Doctor Who marathon. I was told to start with the Ninth Doctor, so that is where I started, and burned through all thirteen episodes today.

Pain Level: 3.5 - 4
Number of Hydrocodones Consumed: 3
Overall entertainment Level: 7

Comments: Nobody does it quite like the Brits, do they? This show is definitely smoking a great deal of RJ's weed, what with the farting aliens and gas mask zombies and homicidal reality show robots and living spaceships and all, but that certainly isn't a bad thing. I can see why so many people in my life enjoy the series as much as they do. The dialogue is flawless, the soundtrack is stellar, and there seems to be a well-balanced mix of angst and WTF-British-comedy going on at all times. And I am utterly convinced that the Doctor, Jack, and Rose had a three-way between episodes 10 and 11. I could have done without Rose's whiny dippy boyfriend, though. He strikes me as a fairly pointless character. But Jack getting repeatedly stripped naked was a nice touch.

All in all, I don't imagine I'll be joining the fandom anytime soon, but it's definitely a good watch.
