OK, so I'm going to go ahead and join the masses in doing this [community profile] snowflake_challenge thing. I am also going to exercise my right to do days out of order, because some of what I want to post about for day 1 needs to be actually posted somewhere before I can post about it.

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Drop a link to your post in the comments. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom and maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.

1) The Last by Seren Maris (Power Rangers SPD)

Why I picked this work: First and foremost, because this is the sort of fic that rips my heart out of my chest and stomps on it. You'll be seeing a lot of that in this post. Second, because it feels so real. This is the world of SPD interpreted as broken and imperfect, an interpretation that remembers that this is only supposed to be 20-some-odd years into the future. Newtech is a real city, with real grit and dirt and problems. The first-gen Rangers are real people, struggling and suffering as they deal with the reality of their mutant children. Cruger performs flawlessly as the detached but obviously wounded narrator. This fic probably appeals to the social worker in me. The individual people, as well as the society they live in, behave in ways that I have seen in my office all too many times before.

2) George and by Marginaliana (Harry Potter)

Why I picked this work: I have never considered myself an HP fan in the sense that I participated in the fandom. But I read the books and had an awful lot of feelings about them. Fred's death was the single thing I had the MOST feelings about. Go ahead, kill characters. Usually I don't mind. But this one, I could not cope with. Still can't. I almost wrote fic of my own about George afterwards. I didn't, because this little fic did it much better than I ever could.

3) Loose Ends by Snarechan (Transformers: Animated)

Why I picked this work: Everybody knows I love me some Sentinel Prime. Very few people like Sentinel Prime. Even fewer people write fic about Sentinel Prime. Here is a truly rare specimen: a well-written, thoughtful, emotionally raw portrayal of a character most of the fandom writes off as a doofus and a douchebag. This fic was posted in 2009, and it STILL blows my mind that it exists without me having had to write it.

4...now with bonus robot porn) Unexpected Disclosures by Seien24 (Transformers: Animated)

Why I picked this work: Because I am relatively certain that absolutely no one ships Sentinel/Ultra Magnus other than me and the person that wrote this. I remember posting after I first read it about how jazzed I was to find this fic that absolutely no one else on my flist would care about. Consider this my belated squee.
